Spring has sprung and, we must say, this is great timing for A Weather’s tour. They will be saying farewell to Portland, OR for the rest of April just after their 4/10 show at The Woods. We at Mushpot are personally excited for their Brooklyn and St. Louis shows. If you live in either city, do make sure to say hi to Jen or Liz at either Union Hall in Brooklyn or Off Broadway in St. Louis!
If you haven’t yet checked out A Weather’s sophomore album, Everyday Balloons, you are surely missing out. The album has been receiving attention and praise from all over, including Pitchfork, Pop Headwound, Neu Magazine, Consequence of Sound, and more! My iPod Thumb is Sore conducted a lovely interview with Sarah, whose solo EP is available for free at the Team Love Library.
So, get on it! Let’s welcome Spring with Everyday Balloons! For tour dates and more A Weather information, click “More…”

The Spires Release Curved Space EP Tuesday, July 13

The dreamy California trio otherwise known as The Spires are set to release their latest – Curved Space- July 13th via Beehouse Records. The EP will be available as a CD and will come with a digital download for a special remix album. Hailing from Ventura, CA the band formed in 2004 and have since effortlessly crafted a discography that would make Felt proud.
The seven tracks at once call to mind the likes of Robyn Hitchcock and The Velvet Underground who the trio has been continuously compared to over their previous six releases. It is with the wry wit of The Kinks and the heart of an Anglophile that Jason Bays casually stretches his lyrics across the wishy-washy reverb of his band mates. “Orange Yellow” in particular buzzes with a charming wishy-washy reverb and encapsulates an introspective journey in the modern world.

The Spires will have many other surprises to be announced soon in addition to a handful of shows on the west coast this summer. In the meantime, make sure to check them out here:
6/03 L.A., California at Spaceland with Fitz and The Tantrums
6/19 Santa Barbra, California at Velvet Jones with The Whigs & Everest
7/12 Santa Barbra, CA at Muddy Waters with Andrew Lee & Catwalk
At the end of March, I was lucky enough to spend some quality time with the boys from Yawn. They stayed at Mushpot’s Brooklyn office / mine and DLV’s apartment, played a show at Piano’s, and did an in-studio performance and interview for Break Thru Radio. It was lots of fun hanging out, watching them play some new songs and old favorites, eating tacos, going to brunch, broing down, looking for parking, etc. Listen to their live studio with Break Thru here!
