Mushpot Records was inspired by the Mushpot weekly radio show hosted by Fanny Mcgee (aka Jenn de la Vega) and Reverb (Yawen Chen) on KDVS 90.3FM in Davis, CA. The Mushpot broadcasted children’s stories as well as new underground music from January 2003 to June 2006. For the 2005 KDVS fundraiser, Jenn decided to make a children’s music compilation. Musician friends from around Davis, CA and as far as Japan submitted tracks. The first Mushpot Children’s compilation was born. Mushpot currently operates out of Brooklyn, NY and sometimes Ft. Worth, TX.

Jenn de la Vega tries to delegate. Most of the time she’s just dancing to hawt tracks in her pajamas while incessantly sharing things on Google Reader. Jenn just Googled herself to find things to type for this painful biography. Jenn has career ADHD and constantly needs to multitask. Like, she cooks hamburgers while blogging about the C-list music scene in Brooklyn after you read it on Pitchforky. Or maybe she’s eating sandwiches with world famous 8-bit artists in a dodgy Korean diner at 3am. Totally. I…I mean, she?…WE went to college and worked at KDVS 90.3FM in Davis, CA. She definitely types faster than she can construct sentences or thoughts. Things somehow get done around the Mushpot office.
When Jeremy Newton was a kid, he listened to his mom’s tapes of the Everly Brothers, Bee Gees, and the Association. It’s gotta be clear though, the Bee Gees stuff we’re talking about here was their early output, the stuff collected on their first Best of… compilation released on Polydor in 1969. Many years later, he and cohost Erik Noftle played all sorts of pop stuff (including the Bee Gees) on their radio show at KDVS in Davis, CA. Other DJs would see the Bee Gees record sitting on the turntable and go “Ooh, disco!” “New York Mining Disaster 1941″ would start playing, and the look on those DJs’ faces would provide Jeremy with a great sense of accomplishment. While working with the station, he booked a handful of bands for house shows and noticed that Jenn DLV was snapping up the same artists for the Mushpot compilation series! It makes sense that he’d start doing A & R with the Mushpot in 2008. Gotta make it official, right?
Jen Marmor doesn’t know what to say, so here are some facts. 1) Jen and Jenn were once shown with many friends and acquaintances on the Jumbotron at a NY Liberty game. 2) Jen was part of the live studio audience during an episode of Full House. 3) Jen’s dad types in Comic Sans on AIM. 4) One of Jen’s favorite things to watch on the internet is that time Howard Dean screamed. 5) Jen is constantly on a quest to find the perfect cardigan. 6) Jen is the former host of a children’s radio show called “The Kids Table,” which aired on KZSC in Santa Cruz, CA. 7) People in Santa Cruz elected Jen the “Local Hero” in a Metro Santa Cruz readers poll.
Jen likes French fries, friendship bracelets, dinosaurs, unicorns, Diane Keaton and audio documentaries.
Liz Deichmann is an avid lover of all things magic so it makes sense that she spends most of her time preoccupied with magical scenarios. Who doesn’t want unicorns, sorcery and elves to be a part of their everyday lives? This lady does. And yes, Liz would play Dungeons and Dragons if only she had a proper set to use. Outside the realm of magic, Liz has been a self-proclaimed Francophile since middle school French class (when she discovered the French Revolution was the most badass historical event outside of the eons when dinosaurs roamed the earth). Liz also adores popcorn, surprising her mother with new tattoos, records, arts and crafts, as well as, old English sheep dogs.
Mushpot Records is an independent and underground music label, creative, event, catering and publicity agency interested in working with twee, pop, IDM, and lo-fi artists as well as alternative and theme-specific children's music compilations.
